Now Google/Blogger claims rich text formatting and Picasa photos?

Um..well, not exactly.

The controls for rich text DON'T show up in Blogger as seen through the Opera browser. Now that IE is suspect, I'm using Opera most of the time. (Although there is some little hitch in multiple edits on TypePad - for which IE is superior)

NOR are photos being hosted by Blogger - it is just that one can download Picasa for free, for photo mgmt. on one's own hard disk.

As I understand it, to date. (from links on Blogger central's web-pages)

Testing update to Blogger from groovey BloggerTool in a Groove workspace on another computer. The success in updating is sporadic. This time it worked, maybe even with these edits appended.
I suspect part of what is sporadic is the Blogger server that is being encouraged to amend such a notice as this one.

BlogWeaver seems to work with old Blogger, but not with the new DANO format. Given they are banner advertising on the blogs, cutting price and extending sign-up period franticly, it is not clear it will work in 2 weeks when all clients are transistioned to DANO.
The 9.95 expense to be able to experiment in this realm is minimal.

With help I was able to post from Groove to stuvnu.blogspot.com .

With seemingly the same pattern of settings but a different template posts to nustuv.blogspot.com are not received. All that under the new DANO API for Blogger.

This is done through the old API which Blogger sez: they will be migrating ALL sites to "real soon now". So - nustv is dead now, and oljoeblog may die in that transition.

Well..! I went to Blogger to migrate this blog, signed in, read the form saying "You do not have any blogs that need to be migrated"

Mebbe so, but I'll continue testing, a bit - as it looks like the same Blogger editing format I'm used to, on this blog. But the new DANO format on nustuv.blogspot.com is different.

This test weblog has been a lab, reporting daily whether Blogger postings were still being accepted from the Tim Knip Suite75 groovey BloggerTool for Groove.
I'm about to make a possibly self-destructive test. I will migrate this blog to the new DANO Blogger format to see if recent claims that the API is now working with 3rd party input tools is true. If if fails, I will report on another blog: nustuv.blogspot.com

Here are excerpts from Blogger's forward looking FAQ:
Can I use Dano with my old blogs?  Sure. If you have existing blogs you'd like to migrate to Dano, you can use this form. In a couple weeks time, we will be transistioning everyone's blogs - posts, templates and all.  --- Will applications using the current version of the API work with Dano?  (API: applications using the current version of the Blogger API (e.g. AudioBlogger) will not work with Dano blogs. old info)  Yes. Applications such as AudioBlogger and w.bloggar should now work with the beta release of Dano. If there is a third party tool you use that is no longer working in Dano, please create a bug report in Control

Changes coming to Blogger mean the API this groovey BloggerTool by Tim Knip via Suite75 will cease to communicate from me to them, sometime soon. Other than scanning knowlegeable weblogs, perhaps daily posting via Groove will be the best diagnostic for when that all comes down.

Spent some of it agonizing over mechanic-ing with the filetype associations in Windows98SE. Groove was relying on IE to print some kinds of data. It was not working. I tried the Groove Forums with no success in receiving advice.   In NoteTab groups on Yahoo I got the reccomendation of a PC Mag 3rd Party tool to fool with the associations. - LO - there was a synthesized file type htmlfile that Windows tools were not reporting. And NO simple filetypes for .htm or .html files. I killed htmlfiles with the 3rd party tool, and re-created useful filetypes for the docs in question.   Now Groove nuggets can be printed, with the clumsy intervention of IE opening the file that is temporarily in TEMP. Nothing is obvious in its breakage, so far. I do have backups.

The new minor Groove update 2.5c added printing for some of the tools that did not have it previously. On my Win98SE computer it is doing this via my default NoteTabPro text editor associated with .html files. The output is the WHOLE xml file of the item (huge & un-usable).

Last week I reported a problem with the free preview ParallelSpace Dashboard 1.0 causing an exception error that crashes my Win98SE computer. On shutting down Groove from the Groove menu, this problem happens every time I have been in the only workspace where I had added that particular Dashboard tool with its "groovelets" automation.   Now I have deleted the tool from that workspace and seen no problem on shutdown. One liability for Groove itself, is confusion among the offered and available features. Groove Pro Advanced Toolset has its own limited Dashboard tool. Another Groove application developer has another dashboard (TeamDirection). Since one cannot easily delete tools once they have been injected, the list grows... with redundantly named tools, some of which may be bad. The chance of adding the WRONG Dashboard to a space exists. If Groove is being used as extensively by Homeland Security, and other US Govt. departments - there is a further risk.   I won't buy the non-free version of ParallelSpace Dashboard to experiment with damaging my system. Nor am I persuaded to "see what happens" on my 2000Pro laptop. After my having sounded the alarm in these varyious cyberforums, it is now up to ParallelSpace to assert when the problem solved.

Be warned ! - Injecting ParallelSpace Dashboard 1.0 Preview Edition (free) makes it possible to ADD the tool to a vaualble Groove workspace. This may sabotage the workspace in the following manner:

When trying to shut down Groove from the menu, the error message "Unknown exception encountered while ..." (I can't read my note). Then comes "Please restart Groove". Then a Windows Exception Error labled Invalid Page Fault in Kernel32.dll.  Groove Pro has been stable through a couple of updates on this Win98SE 450 Mhz machine. I did just inject the ParallelSpace Preview Dashboard (free) today. Now when I open a workspace that does NOT contain that tool, Groove will shut down ok. However if I open a workspace that does have the Dashboad 1.0 tool, and open that tool, then shutdown - the problem comes.  

Of course I forwarded these details to ParallelSpace.

A new injection of the groovey bloggertool into a Groove workspace does NOT have blogger account details, and that bloggertool won't work until those are entered. Should be obvious? You'd think!
AND, I was able to edit that "half a line" in the previous post. So now I can post and revise posts either from Blogger; or the groovey bloggertool, so long as I'm using the latter on a Win 2000 + machine and have not turned off Groove such that the tool loses its history.

A function of the Suite75 Groovey boggertool (by Tim Knip) that had never worked before..JUST DID. On the 2000PRO laptop a new item posted to this oljoeblog as usual, but also stored in the space above in the tool window. This has not been happening on my Win98SE desktop machine.

I will be closing down the jolinvite workspace for Groove that I advertised via www.o-t-g.com/blahg . The experiment was a small success. I saw a half dozen who accepted the invitation. 2 I scared away, 2 stayed a while, but now all have moved on to more moving spaces.

It seems evident now that problems over the last few days of Groove bloggertool by Tim Knip have been caused by Blogger failing to find or use the template I created for my test blog there.
The fix was to reopen the template on Blogger, then save it anew (no changes).
I read this suggestion in a Yahoo Group posting.

bloggertool does not give a confirmation of a sent blog update being received by Blogger. Used to be one could wait 2 or 3 minutes, then check the oljoeblog.blogspot.com homepage to find the posted blog update - then move on.
Now Blogger's failure to find the template right away introduces a 15-30 minute lag in publishing the updated blog. This is too long to fit into a workflow pattern for the user, forgetful that the check should be made.

Today Tim Knip implemented blogging from a threaded discussion tool in Groove, publishing as a collaborative weblog from many eager sources.
Should I want to get in to the game, Radio is $40 for the year. Groovey Interop Radio Tool seems to be free from Suite75.

Note: THIS free blogger tool publishes through blogger.com to blogspot.com if I'm in Groove. Other access could be through a cybercafe, editing via Blogger over the internet - no need to lug the laptop with Radio, etc. on it.

Meanwhile, the TrellixWeb site is reconfigurable at whim, and freshness can be advertised to Radio lists when I want to go through the effort.

Only one more day until I take down the open invite to a Groove workspace that is on my main blog. There is a new update at www.groove.net . A 28 mB download, but it works for the free 3 space preview version of the software as well as updating more expensive licenses.

On my main blog www.o-t-g.com/blahg I have demonstrated a simple html method to allow a writer to control how s(he) likes weblog presented - e.g. recent chronology from bottom to top. Such that an anchor at the bottom of the weblog page directs first view to the most recent addition which has been appended to the bottom of the scroll of the log.

Composing in the Blogger Tool add-on for Groove software uploads ok tthrough the Blogger API, BUT these Line Feed characters bleed through. Maybe the pending 2.5 version upgrade to Groove will call forth a rewrite of the Blogger Tool.

Trying to compose using the Blogger editor site accessed with Opera 6.05 without Java, is limited by the 20 character editing box displayed. Fortunately IE 5.0 gives a full screen with which to work..with.

11/18/02 Installed Groove Professional 2.1c on the laptop, then cloned it to my desktop machine by an eventual Account Fetch operation, even though one of Groove's relay servers was down for a while. Seems to run a little smoother than the free Preview Edition of Groove as updated to 2.1c . De-fragging the hard drive might make it even quicker.

On track with creating the MayeticVillage QuickPlace site by this weekend. Spent lots of time trying to secure the Members space from casual inspection. An anonymous visitor to the first level can't see Members. But allowing a temporary access so an applicant can e'mail via a web form requesting to join, grants them Reader priveleges that do let them see Member info. Seems there should be better security for the data (names/alias) of individual members. 

Can't move or copy the Members space to an inner room, either.

Watching Ray Ozzie's Blog listed with others at Groove. there seems to be a lot of excitement about broadcasting a question or salient line of inquiry somewhere, then quickly being able to put together a discussion group. I know they are searching for a use for their technology. Having been part of 3 Yahoo User Groups for several years - it seems to me posting and response threaded together already works well there. What Yahoo DOESN'T design for is to create exclusive groups of invited guests. Yahoo does get some hooligans, some offl-topic postings. But there is also a proletarian sense of welcome that the exclusive world of complex software and dedicated server relays seems to have only marginally. The Groove implemented popG services centering on London may have had some sense of this, but may have been truncated in mid-July due to changes incorporated into the latest update of Groove 2.1.

The other blog is www.o-t-g.com/blog done with TrellixWeb producing "framed" html to a template customized from a couple of Dan Bricklin's experimental layouts for Trellix - TrellixWeb - CuteSite customers

oljoeblog.blogspot.com is a use of Groove's Blogger Tool to post to a Blogger.com blog on blogspot.com. The beta tool is created by Suite75 in Holland. Injected into my private GrooveSpace laboratory it automates the FTP posting that editing on the Blogger webpage - web service could do. A disadvantage of the Groove approach is that I cannot alter the website template through the tool. BUT that function is always available through Blogger. On the + side, in the tool I can edit within a much wider entry box, see more of what mistake I whizzed in with random typing

So ! there is an investment in both methods and the 2 blogs. One of my own creativity in carving the screen seen result. The other, the foment of excitement in a community getting a new paradigm functioning.

Latency of web services relaying around from Groove to Blogger to Blogspot and back - means the impatience to test something may corrupt the lab data. I write an item in Groove Blogger tool, SEND it, wait a little, toggle to the HomePage tab then minimize Groove and do something else. When I look back, eventually (4 minutes ?) the modified Homepage is showing on Blogspot. Toggling back to the Blogger Tool MAIN PAGE it stills says "sending" the update that is already there. Indeed if I try to create a new item, that may be too soon. Again minimizing Groove and doing something else..on return to Groove Blogger tool it still says "sending" but this time the NEW button actually opens an Editing window. Would some of this latency disappear if I was FTP uploading to an ISP in my own hometown, instead of to Blogger/Blogspot ?

Posts via Groove show an extra date/time stamp. This puts extra "white" space between posts. Think it best to go to this wide screen format to give enough visual coherency to phrases to promote understanding. Sentences chopped up by a narrow column promote fragmentary understanding, irritation, rejection, non-use, etc.

After several experiments the Groove Blogger Tool does seem to be working well. Webservices may cause more latency in getting the post transferred to blogspot. Think I will use it a lot for a while. Use editing at Blogger primarily for html template modifications.
DID change the default right hand bottom title to centered.
